Good morning Parents and Families,
I can't believe we're in our last week of October! The year is going by so fast. We have a lot on our plate this week.
Jumping right into our assessment for Esperanza Rising, students will have a lot of writing to do over the next few days. Tonight they need to write their first two paragraphs around the prompt, "How has Esperanza changed over time?" I've included a sample paragraph so expectations are clear. 5th grade writing is a pretty intense beast. I've been hearing the moans and groans, but unfortunately I can't change the expectation. The level of work that you'll see tonight is what they'll be expected to do on PARCC, only on PARCC they have to do multiple forms of writing. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Wednesday students will take their next ANET exam in language arts. Please make sure your student is on time to school that day. I will be sharing their results from both ANET tests next Wednesday night at Parent-Teacher night.
Thursday is our Halloween Carnival. We are still in need of candy, treats, baked goods, and parent volunteers to make this night a success. The carnival is from 5-7 on Thursday. 5th grade will be running the actual haunted house in shifts. If your child is participating in the carnival please make sure they're here every afternoon this week to get everything ready and complete.
Friday is our field trip. Please send in $5 for admission for your student. I will need all funds and permission slips by Wednesday.
I know there's a lot on our plate this week, but I'm certain our amazing 5th graders will persevere and be even stronger next week.
If you have any questions please feel free to email, call or text.
Take care,
Leticia Austin
