This week students will be taking mid-unit assessments in both language arts and math. We are also diving deeper into direct writing instruction to further develop students' ability to plan, organize, and write around a specific topic using text-based evidence.
Thank you to everyone who has jumped on Lear2Earn. This is such a great opportunity for all students to track their reading, respond to questions, share about their books, and to earn money for 5th Grade activities. If you haven't set up your child's account, please do so as soon as possible.
There will be a transition in Mrs. Austin's classroom. Sarah Olsen, our Denver Teacher Resident, will no longer be part of our class. She will be transferring to another campus at another grade level. We wish her the best on her journey to becoming a teacher.
Our next field trip is on the 29th of this month. This will be a walking field trip to the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council, where students will learn about Dia de los Muertos.
We have DCIS's Halloween Carnival coming up at the end of this month. 5th Grade will be in charge of the haunted house, from construction to acting out. Please be on the lookout for more information in the next week. We will need volunteers and supplies, as well as student participation.
Looking ahead, Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held Wednesday, November 4 from 4-8pm. Please plan on attending, we will dive into data and student achievement as a group. This is a fantastic opportunity to see not only how your child is performing, but also to see where they are in terms of grade level expectations.
