Welcome back 5th Grade families!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break. We have jumped right into the swing of things starting our unit on fractions and reading responses. It is testing season, not always my favorite, but it's the time for our kiddos to show us everything they know. From now until Spring Break, homework will be daily, including Friday's, and will increase slightly. Their homework assignments will still be directly connected to what we're doing in class and will include a review of skills as well. This is the time to make sure your student is practicing their multiplication facts. Fractions are really difficult if your child doesn't have a strong understanding of multiplication and how numbers are comprised.
I will be uploading videos to help with math concepts to our website. These are a great resource to see exactly how we're teaching concepts and to support with homework.
In Thursday folders, you will find several flyers for school and community happenings, as well as homework. There is also a flyer regarding their overnight trip towards the end of the year. 5th grade has a hard deadline to get payment and payment plans set up. Please return the forms with payment as soon as possible. If you would like to be set up on a payment plan or are in need of a scholarship please let the office know as soon as possible. Students that miss the deadline will not be allowed to attend. If for any reason your child will not be attending, please let us know.
Our Museum of Nature and Science field trip has been rescheduled for after Spring Break in order to meet the demands of our testing schedules. If you would like to chaperone feel free to send me a message so I can get you signed up.
If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer anytime.
Have a wonderful evening,
Leticia Austin
